As a writer, Blacka Ellis has created songs for Judy Mowatt and comedy material for Oliver Samuels, Tony Hendricks and Ity and Fancy Cat. He has won silver and bronze medals for his poetry in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s literary arts competition and has performed as a featured poet at the Poetry Society of Jamaica’s monthly fellowship. Mr. Ellis co-wrote the award-winning LTM pantomime Schoolers and recently wrote and directed Tick Tock, an experimental drama that uses dance hall music and poetry.
