Described by Vogue as "the chicest shack in the Caribbean” and by the Evening Standard as “officially the coolest place to stay in the world,” Jake’s is a scattering of cottages in caffeinated colors on the ring of an intimate cove on Jamaica’s untamed south coast.

With names such as Abalone, Seapuss and Cockles, the cottages are infused with a spirit of whimsy and Antillean ease. Rooms are decorated with Jamaican antiques and local art, some by owner and designer Sally Henzell, whose eclectic mind finds momentary release in poetry and mosaics. Rooms have neither phones nor air conditioning. Shade trees and ocean breezes regulate the heat. Talk about cool runnings.

Jake’s is a place of subtlety and bold contrasts—of simplicity and great sophistication. It’s a place where the elemental beauty of simple things are made clear: the metallic copper undersides of almond trees, a curl of surf like lace embroidery on a woman’s dress, pumpkin soup the color of a sunset. No man. Seriously. Jake’s is it.
