Robert
Antoni was born in the United States in 1958 and
he carries three passports: US, Trinidad and Tobago,
and the Bahamas.
His latest novel is Carnival, which was published
by Grove/Atlantic in February, and by Faber &
Faber in the UK. His story collection, My Grandmother’s
Erotic Folktales (2001) was published by Grove/Atlantic
(New York), and by Faber & Faber (London);
it also appeared in several translations. His
novel Blessed is the Fruit (1997) was published
by Henry Holt (New York) and by Faber & Faber
(London). His first novel, Divina Trace (1991),
was published by the Overlook Press (New York),
and by Quartet (London). It received the Commonwealth
Writers Prize among many top awards.
He holds an MA from Johns Hopkins University,
an MFA and a PhD from the Writers Workshop at
the University of Iowa. He was an Associate Professor
of creative writing and Caribbean literature at
the University of Miami, where he taught for nine
years. While at the University of Miami he also
acted as Associate Director of their Caribbean
Writers Summer Institute. He presently divides
his time between New York, the Caribbean, and
Barcelona, Spain.
