The Hon. Oliver F. Clarke joined The Gleaner Company Limited in 1976 in the capacity of Managing Director. He held this position for several months before being appointed as Chairman, a position that he holds today. Mr. Clarke’s other positions include: President of the Commonwealth Press Union, and Chairman of the Jamaica National Building Society.

In 2004, he was made a Caribbean Luminary of the American Foundation for the University of the West Indies for his work in the Caribbean and the wider world. Mr. Clarke was the President of the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) from 1997 to 1998 and President of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ), from 2001 to 2002. He was awarded the Order of Jamaica in 1998 and was inducted into the PSOJ’s Hall of Fame in 1997. He received the Americas Award in 1990. He is married to Monica Ladd, Attorney-at-law, and they have one child, Alexandra.
